U.S. News & World Report Names Auburn as One of the "Ten Great Retirement Spot for Golf Nuts"

June 30, 2008– In a recent article in U.S. News & World Report, author Luke Mullins names Auburn as one of the top “Ten Great Retirement Spots for Golf Nuts.” The article explains that Auburn is not simply a football town, but offers one of the greatest opportunities for golfers that can be found nationwide. Mullins calls Auburn a “great option for retiring golfers looking to settle down in the South.”

The article which recognizes various destinations across the nation spotlights the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, specifically the Grand National course in the Auburn-Opelika area. Mullins says that Grand National is one of 11 sites found on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which he calls “a 26-course masterpiece that winds through the state.”

“(At Grand National) literally 34 of the 54 holes sit on water,” says David Bronner, CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama and the visionary behind the project. “It’s extremely beautiful. As this new honor shows, the Auburn-Opelika area is ideal for active retirees,” said Dr. Bronner. “Access to great golf, Auburn University, and the area resources were major factors in developing National Village at Grand National. “This new upscale community has 700 acres and is surrounded by the RTJ courses at Grand National.” With the first homes recently completed, new residents will have easy access to the restaurants and amenities at the Auburn-Opelika Marriott. In 2005, Auburn-Opelika was also named the #1 Golf Destination in the Unites States by Golf Digest.
