Day 1
Learn local history as you visit Pope's Tavern, a one-time stagecoach stop, tavern and inn that served as a hospital during the Civil War and is now a museum that houses a wealth of local history. Next, tour the Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum Home, the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structure in the state of Alabama and one of only 26 Usonian houses in the United States.
It is constructed of cypress, glass and brick and has been meticulously restored. Then, visit the W.C. Handy Home & Museum, birthplace of the "Father of the Blues" which walks visitors through the life of this talented musician who was born in Florence, and is the creator of such compositions as "Memphis Blues" and "St. Louis Blues." Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts offers culturally diverse art exhibits and programs. While strolling along Court Street, one can admire not only the architecture of these historical buildings, but the Southern charm incorporated into every front porch step.
Day 2
Experience sights, sounds & tastes of the Shoals. See how the South's most famous crop is made at Oakland Cotton Gin, which services over thirty local farms and is a great way to see how the South still gins cotton. Next, experience how the most delicious tastes of the Shoals are prepared through an informative tour at Shoals Commercial Culinary Center. Lastly, take a scenic and informative tour of local flora and fauna at Little Cypress Natives Nursery.
