Day 1
Muscle Shoals is known for music! The Muscle Shoals sound blends a rhythm as distinctive as the cities of “The Shoals.” Experience music at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and the famous recording studios of Muscle Shoals. Next, visit the birthplace of “America’s First Lady of Courage,” Helen Keller. Her home, Ivy Green in Tuscumbia, is the setting for moving outdoor performances of “The Miracle Worker,” presented June through mid July. Stroll along Cold Water Falls in Spring Park and enjoy statuary commemorating Native American history, before dining at Claunch Café for upscale Southern cuisine.
A scenic afternoon drive through “Freedom Hills” will lead to the world’s only Coon Dog Cemetery, where over 200 bona fide coon hounds are buried. An ice cream treat from the soda fountain at The Palace will refresh you for a visit to the Tuscumbia RR Depot or for shopping at specialty shops located in downtown Tuscumbia. For dinner, select George’s for steaks, Frank’s for authentic Italian fare, or The Rocking Chair Restaurant for delicious fried catfish and “hush puppies.” Then witness the spectacular display of dancing waters, when the Spring Park Light and Water Show spotlights Alabama and Muscle Shoals Music.
Day 2
Observe production of luxurious down pillows at The Pillow Factory, then step back in time. LaGrange College Site and Pioneer Park showcases rustic log cabins, while the elegance of pre-Civil War plantation life is glimpsed at Belle Mont Mansion. There’s more to do at Muscle Shoals than you can imagine!
