Introduction

Scottsdale! Scottsdale has more art galleries per capita than almost any other city in the United States. Most famous for its Western and Native American art, Scottsdale features genres of all kinds. Celebrate Scottsdale’s art scene with locals every Thursday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Scottsdale ArtWalk, going strong for more than 30 years. Also be sure to venture to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA). Named by Frommer’s as one of nine Favorite Small Museums in the world, SMoCA’s five galleries showcase an ever-changing roster of exhibitions devoted to today’s architecture and design. Connoisseurs of fine architecture will appreciate Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, a National Historic Landmark and one of Wright’s greatest achievements; tours available daily. For those looking to explore Arizona’s Native American roots, the Heard Museum in downtown Phoenix and its Scottsdale branch, the Heard Museum North, house an award-winning collection of contemporary art and artifacts from tribes throughout the state. For sports fans, Scottsdale offers easy access to some of professional sports’ most exciting teams, including the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals , NBA’s Phoenix Suns and NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.
