Arrive at Miss Laura’s Visitor Center- the first stop for any visitor in Fort Smith. Take a tour of this former bordello, the first to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Fort Smith National Historic Site- step back in time as you tour Judge Isaac C. Parker’s Courtroom (known as the “hanging Judge”), visit the old jail called” Hell on the Border” and hear voices from the past. See a replica of the famed gallows where 79 men met their fate at the end of a rope.
Darby Home- Tour the boyhood home of the founder of Darby’s Rangers during World War II. It contains personal military memorabilia, mementos from Darby’s early years and items from Fort Smith’s sister city, Cisterna di Latina, Italy.
Fort Smith Museums of History- Trace 150 years of Fort Smith history; learn the city’s role in the early frontier, the Civil War, and the late 19th century lawlessness of this area. Take a nostalgic ride through our downtown on a restored electric trolley from here to our National Cemetery where both Judge Parker and General Darby are buried.
The Clayton House- Built in 1850’s, this restored home of William Henry Clayton, Prosecuting Attorney for Judge Isaac C. Parker.
End the day at The Park at West End- Fort Smith’s retro park. Ride a vintage carousel with antique pones, or a ferris wheel first used at the World’s Fair in California in the 1930’s.
