Introduction
Restaurant prices are for a main course at dinner, excluding sales tax of 7¼%. Long a culinary wasteland, the desert now supports many trendy restaurants. Italian cuisine remains popular, but you can now dine at restaurants that serve fare from Thai to Indian to Brazilian, from seafood to vegetarian, and from classic French to contemporary Californian. You can find Mexican food everywhere; in the smaller communities it may be your best choice. Dining throughout the region is casual. Many restaurants that were traditionally closed in summer (the off-season) are now open on a limited basis and offer deep discounts during this time; hours vary, so call ahead.
