J. Sarnik & Sons, Coventry and assorted shops on Route 31 (tel. 860-742-7999) - Oldest General Store in the U.S. also as antiques dealer. Rte. 31 is becoming a new antique district, so check out many small shops along this road.
Lunch: Still River Café, Eastford - Regionally-acclaimed “important” restaurant uses only fresh local ingredients as well as ones they farm themselves. Stay after lunch to tour the 27 acre farm with expansive perennial, herb and vegetable gardens.
Other option: Bidwell Tavern Café, Coventry (tel. 860.742.6978). Step back into colonial times for hearty fare.
Still Waters Antiques, Eastford (tel. 860-974-3500)– Delightfully different with an extensive collection of antiques, textiles, vintage clothing and hats. Eclectic.

Antiques Marketplace, Putnam – Connecticut’s largest and most diverse antique mall with 30 vendors and great prices.
Lunch: Vanilla Bean Café, Pomfret – Many Best’s By Connecticut Magazine including Best Outdoor Dining, Best Sandwiches and Best Vegetarian.
Other options: 85 Main, Putnam - American fusion cuisine, artfully presented.
Scranton’s Shops, South Woodstock (tel. 860.928.3738) – Early New England blacksmith shop converted into space for over 90 local artisans.
Laurel Forge, Pomfret – working blacksmith shop featuring early American style handwrought iron ware. These are not antiques, but made to look like them on site.
McClellan Elms, South Woodstock – 18th and 19th c. furniture, Oriental rugs, primitive to formal selections. Housed in historic McClellan House.
