Baltimore Itineraries

When you visit Baltimore, history is all around you. As one of America’s most important colonial ports, we are eager to share a few hundred years of our history with you. Start with a quick refresher at the Maryland Historical Society where you’ll see the original text of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as Francis Scott Key wrote it.

If you want to see the spot that inspired Mr. Key’s awe during the Battle of Baltimore in 1812, you’ll need to head south to the Inner Harbor and take a Water Taxi to historic Fort McHenry, which appears today just as it did during that battle so many years ago. But wait! On your way there, take advantage of Heritage Walk, a guided – or self-guided – walking tour beginning at the Baltimore Visitor Center, highlighting downtown points of interest like the Flag House and Star-Spangled Banner Museum, Little Italy, and the Jewish Museum of Maryland.

Catch a cab back from Fort McHenry and stop at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, full of local contributions to the American industrial landscape, or skip across town to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum where you can hop aboard and ride the first mile of passenger railroad ever laid in the United States. You won’t have time to take it all in, but it will take you back in time!
