Introduction

Missouri sits in the Midwest region of the United States. The diverse landscape, ranging from prairie farmland in the northwest, through rolling Ozark Mountains and wilderness, to the wetlands in the southeast, allows Missouri to offer travelers a large variety of activities.

Golf everything from nine-hole courses with sand greens to championship layouts designed by Jack Nicholas, Gary Player and Arnold Palmer. Hunt quail, deer, turkey, water fowl and elk. Fishing . . . crappie to rainbow trout, trophy bass to 40-pound muskellunge, you can catch it here.

The Mississippi River, North America’s largest, forms the eastern border of Missouri, while its largest tributary, the Missouri River, slices across the state. Along these waterways find riverboat casinos, rich farm lands, and more than half of our 62 world-class wineries.

Known as The Cave State, Missouri has more than 6,000 surveyed caves; scores are open for public exploration and guided tours, including one you drive through on a tram, another was a hideout for outlaw Jesse James.

Rugged areas like the Irish Wilderness, the Mark Twain National Forest, Mingo Wildlife Refuge and the Ozark Trail beckon backpackers, hikers and rock climbers. Canoe and kayak enthusiasts enjoy numerous spring-fed streams for trips lasting from two hours to four days. Numerous ways to play are available at lakes throughout Missouri; Lake of the Ozarks offers more shoreline than the coast of California.

Missouri places third in the number of battles and engagements fought during the American Civil War. More than 300 of these sites have been preserved and are open to the public.

A visit to Missouri is a visit to America. That’s why we are called the Show-Me State. Come see for yourself.
