Introduction
Custer Country is the largest Travel Region in Montana, home to 13 counties and two Indian Reservations. It also has some of the most diverse landscapes in all of Montana. In Custer Country, you will discover beautiful rolling hills, breathtaking vistas, endless blue skies by day and more stars than you can count in the evening. The towns in Custer Country are just as distinct as the landscape, ranging from small, friendly western towns to more metropolitan cities like MIles City and Billings—Montana’s largest city.
If history is what your goazl, then Custer Country is your destination. The historic Little Big Horn Battlefield, the site of Custer’s Last Stand, is located in the region only an hour’s drive from Billings. Highway 212 is the historic Warrior Trail, the shortest distance between the Little Bighorn Battlefield and Mount Rushmore, and the corridor of many battles of great historical significance. Custer Country is also home to a significant part of Lewis & Clark's Corp of Discovery. In fact, Captain Clark left Custer Country the last remaining physical evidence of their travels, carving his name in what is now known as Pompeys Pillar. Discover adventures of Jurassic proportions on Montana’s Dinosaur Trail where you can actually dig for fossils (with permission) near Glendive and Ekalaka.
