When to Go to Eugene, Cascades & Coast

Spring
Spring showers bring flowers from the Cascades to the Oregon Coast. This is the time to see new blooms at nearby nurseries and flower festivals, and experience a wealth of events at area wineries. During spring in western Oregon, you’ll often hear people say, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes.” This season also ushers in world-class events in Track Town, USA and spectacular whale watching on the Oregon Coast.
Summer
Visit during our warm, dry summers for white-water rafting and mountain biking in the Cascades, or cycling and golf throughout the Willamette Valley. For sandboarding and dune buggy tours, head to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area on the Oregon Coast. Fall
During fall, witness an explosion of vibrant foliage throughout the region. Our mild climate often means favorable weather into October, allowing for great flat-water kayaking, hiking, wildlife watching and famous fly fishing. This is often referred to as the coast’s second summer, when winds abate and beachcombers come out in droves.
Winter
Eugene and the Willamette Valley are known for their cool, wet winters, which when combined with warm, mild summers, result in award-winning Pinot noir and Pinot gris. In the Cascade Mountains, moisture translates into fluffy snow and weekends on the slopes or backcountry routes. Winter on the Oregon Coast can be unpredictable with beautiful sunny days followed by some of the best storm watching imaginable.
