History abounds in the Richmond Region. The area's roots reach back to America's founding. Points of interest include everything from Agecroft Hall, a 15th-century Tudor-style home, to the Confederate War Memorial Chapel, built in 1887. Other interesting historical sites include the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia in historic Jackson Ward; the Chesterfield Museum complex, which houses Magnolia Grange, an 1822 plantation house; and Tuckahoe Plantation, Thomas Jefferson’s boyhood home. Additional attractions include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with the Mellon collections of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art; Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, featuring more than 40 acres of spectacular gardens; and the Library of Virginia, where you can see an original copy of the Bill of Rights.
