Live the Virginia Beach Life this Holiday Season

This winter, escape to Virginia Beach. The beach life sizzles in the cooler seasons as the holidays draw near, and the air is full of generous spirit. Indulge in whale watching, holiday shopping, dazzling lights, and an appearance by Santa, while the New Year approaches.

It’s a winter wonderland of lights on the Virginia Beach boardwalk. Experience the nautical illumination of Holiday Lights at the Beach from mid-November through January 1. Thousands of visitors make this annual trek to drive on the boardwalk and be dazzled by jumping fish, surfing Santas, and playful mermaids. This is the only time of the year motorists are allowed to drive on the boardwalk.

The holiday season is not official until Santa makes his grand entrance at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. During the Annual Holiday Parade at the Beach in December, spectators revel in the holiday spirit with carols and festive floats marching down Atlantic Avenue. Giant balloons, marching bands, antique autos, decorated fire trucks, and Santa Claus will make it an event to remember.

Each winter, Virginia Beach welcomes humpback and fin whales, as they migrate to the food-rich mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and warmer waters of the Atlantic Ocean for their annual retreat. From the end of December through mid-March, Virginia Beach offers visitors the rare opportunity to spot these majestic creatures up close on a whale watching boat tour hosted by the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center.

Where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay, anglers find a year-round fisherman’s paradise in Virginia Beach. Fishing tournaments abound in the winter season landlubbers can cast their line from one of four fishing piers.
