Introduction

There is always something to do in Oregon. Play world-class golf, cycle hundreds of miles of designated bike lanes, take road-trips to wine country, hunt for fossils or get lost in the moment of a brilliantly crafted scene of play. There is also plenty to see. In addition to pristine public beaches, high-desert country, painted hills and wine-producing valleys, Oregon is home to North America’s deepest river Gorge (Hells Canyon), the country's deepest lake (Crater Lake) and the world’s second-most-climbed mountain (Mt. Hood), which also happens to host North America’s only year-round ski season.

Key attractions:

With more than one million volumes crammed into a single city blow, Powell’s City of Books (1005 W Burnside, Portland) is the largest independent bookstore in the world. And because 60 percent of Powell’s inventory is made up of used, rare and out-of-print books, any expedition into the stacks holds the possibility of uncovering a priceless – to you, that is – literary treasure.

Timberline Lodge National Historic Landmark (27500 E Timberline Road, Timberline Lodge ) is where historic preservation, stewardship, recreation and hospitality come together to provide an unforgettable experience. The Lodge, which was built almost entirely by hand, rests at the 6,000-foot elevation on Mt. Hood and offers inspiring views of the surrounding mountains.

You and your grandchildren are free to enjoy all 363 miles of nature’s best work, the Oregon Coast. Come and enjoy your favorite activity with the Pacific Ocean in front of you and dramatic cliffs, dunes and old growth forest all around you. It is, after all, Officially Yours.

The richness of the land, hospitality of the people and natural beauty of the Willamette Valley are waiting to be enjoyed by travelers looking for the next glass of exquisite Pinot, a hoppy beer and world-class dining. Come visit and experience the bounty of Oregon’s Wine County.

While enjoying the natural scenic wonders at Crater Lake National Park in Southern Oregon, park visitors may hike in old growth forests, participate in a variety of interpretive activities, camp out or stay in an historic hotel or even cross-country ski during the eight-month-long winters in the high Cascades.

Central Oregon is home to the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, including 50,000+ acres of lakes, lava flows and spectacular geologic features, including Paulina Lake, once home to the oldest known civilization in North America and Big Obsidian Flow, one of the most recent and most accessible obsidian flows in the World.

The Hells Canyon National Scenic Byway offers visitors rural shopping experiences that range from world-renowned bronze sculptures, to locally grown beef served with a bottle of local wine or a microbrew. From a white-water adventure in Hells Canyon to winter sled dog racing, Eastern Oregon’s Hells Canyon Byway has something for everyone. Begins in La Grande and ends just north of Baker City.
