Day 1
Arrive in Amarillo around noon and check into your hotel. That afternoon visit one or more of your chosen museums – Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian, American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum, Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, Don Harrington Discovery Center or the Amarillo Museum of Art- and have dinner in one of the many restaurants in the city.
Day 2
Breakfast at your hotel, then take a city tour including Historic Route 66 and plan for lunch along the “Mother Road”. Maybe you’d consider the short drive to Adrian (app. 50 min. west of Amarillo) to have a bite at the “Midpoint Café, exact middle of Route 66 between East and West. On the way you there or back you might visit the Cadillac Ranch (don’t forget some spray paint for the cars), the historic homes in downtown and, of course, a stop for shopping.
For dinner consider either “Texas” – summer only at the Pioneer Amphitheater in the Palo Duro Canyon - or the Big Texan Steak Ranch.
Day 3
Breakfast at your hotel or a western experience at River Breaks Ranch or Elkins Ranch Cowboy Morning (reservations needed). Afterwards, plan for some additional shopping or departure.
