Don’t leave without tasting...
A chimichanga (a deep-fried burrito). There is a long-standing debate about who discovered the chimichanga first, Macayo’s Mexican Restaurant in Phoenix or El Charro Café in Tucson. We say try them both!
Where locals go to relax
Arizona residents go northeast to the White Mountains for camping, fishing and outdoor fun. Or they head to lakes like Lake Powell or Lake Mead for houseboating adventures.
Top photo opportunities
Grand Canyon National Park, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Saguaro National Park, Sedona, Petrified Forest National Park and Chiricahua National Monument.
There are many things not to miss as you drive across the state: feed the ostriches at Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch, pet the burros in Oatman, stay at the Wigwam Hotel and then visit the dinosaurs in Holbrook, or for the more adventurous, sleep overnight in the Grand Canyon caverns.
Don’t overlook this...
Birding is the number-one attraction in southern Arizona—especially at places like Ramsey Canyon Preserve and its surrounding national forest, where visitors from all over the world come for a chance to see more than 170 species of birds.
One awe-inspiring building
The Grand Canyon Skywalk is located at Grand Canyon West Rim, on the Hualapai Nation Indian reservation. This structure is a horseshoe-shaped glass walkway extending 70 feet past the edge of the Grand Canyon and 4,000 feet above the Colorado River. You can stand on the edge of an engineering marvel and look down through 2.5 inches of crystal-clear glass for a unique view of one of the world’s natural wonders.
